Most avid Grey's Anatomy viewers were probably unaware that the crazy girl, trying to stab herself on the show May 13th, 2010 was Demi Lovato, more famous for starring in Disney's Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance. Demi played her role well (wish we knew who she had in mind in this context-method acting anybody?) She's used to more comedic roles, and known for her singing voice -Disney wasn't rushing to advertise her appearance, considering the usual adult content of Grey's Anatomy. Looking at some recent press for other stars, heaven help the Disney star who breaks out of the claws of typecasting.
Many of Hollywood Beginning's avid twitter followers were tweeting about "watching Grey's only for Demi, since the show is too "scary"" (the word they're looking for is graphic).
ABC can thank Demi for the boost in rating's for yesterday's show. If you look closely at Demi's face in some of the scenes, it's hard for her not to smile, the expression on her face says, "Woah I can't believe I'm doing this!" Demi tweeted to fans earlier about her excitement, saying that being on Grey's was a "dream come true."
This was a great breakout role for Demi outside of her Disney projects, because although Sonny with a Chance is pretty funny and Camp Rock is kind of addictive, Demi can't be positioned to play "a girl with a dream" forever, she's just got way more depth than that, and it can be seen from her time on Grey's. We hope to see more roles like this from Demi- she definitley has her acting roots planted.
