The Parents' Television Council just won't shut up. Everyday they're moaning about something in the entertainment industry. Why don't they just ban kids from watching TV and listening to music altogether? Surely an absence of creativity would make the PTC happy.
Rihanna took to Twitter to give some powerful words back in the face of parents:
"I'm a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice! Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why!Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can't hide your kids from society,or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD!"

The Beatles wrote most of their hits hopped up on drugs, and I'm sure the PTC would condemn them for the "suggestive" lyrics from "Twist and Shout."
No one is focused on the empowering messages female artists are sending to young women today, as usual only the negativity is being focused on.
How about the millions upon millions of tweets kids are sending their favorite artists stating that they saved lives, inspired, and kept them going when the going got rough?
Yes there are plenty of things children should be shielded from, but what's on the airwaves is a glimpse of what kids are hearing in school hallways and seeing on the streets. Parents need to not just say "no." They should explain why it's wrong. Rihanna's new video surely isn't Barney, but focusing on negativity isn't sending a good message to our youth either. Maybe if the news media fostered a more positive image of the world, and activist groups took new approaches, we would view the world differently.
