In short, this article is discounting students who don't have a primary goal of attending college. A college degree is definitely an asset, however, there are many ways to foster one's talents and knowledge in addition to classroom learning. College used to be a choice, not a necessity. I think this article goes a little far in the way it looks at children's futures in a completely linear way.
