The Closer: Season 6 has a lot of great perks, but the special features are some of the best among television series on DVD. "From Script to Screen" is a favorite feature of mine as a filmmaker, since it gives an extensive behind the scenes look at the making of the sow. Viewers will appreciate the lengths the crew goes to ensure authenticity and accuracy in crimes and the aftermath in painting a whole picture for the story. "Kyra Opens Up About The Closer" found on disk 2, will be of interest to writers, since Kyra Sedgwick goes into great detail about the character driven nature of The Closer, and how other shows are following suit. "Police Files" are also included in the special features. If you need some convincing, click here for a little coaxing from Brenda.

While Kyra Sedgwick's character, Brenda, in The Closer is no ordinary woman, the struggles she faces are something everyone can relate to. Balancing work and personal life is a never ending battle. It becomes difficult to compartmentalize life when emotions are running high and difficult problems are at hand. Work often bleeds into one's personal life since at some point the two merge. Spending forty plus hours a week in a place makes it more than a minor part of life. In an emotionally charged position such as Brenda's, it's not easy to leave work behind when she's not on duty. Television is a universal tool that connects people together in the sharing of circumstances and emotions. We want to watch shows that we can relate to and understand the characters on the screen.

Kyra Sedgwick's character Brenda on The Closer is the ultimate woman. She has the power and force of a male head of state, while displaying the compassion at the same time. Take her interrogation of the well-to do druggie in the episode entitles, "An Ugly Game." Brenda approaches the suspect with an almost motherly concern. In this case she actually uses her femininity to her advantage. Brenda has the upper hand in this scene, since she is interrogating, but her femininity allows her to have maximum use of her power.
Brenda reminds me of a friend of mine who does a physically demanding job that requires a lot of micro-management. Although her hands get dirty, she manages to keep them manicured and clean. She tackles problems with a brute sensitivity. When she "asks" permission" really by her voice you can tell she's demanding it! Every one of us has an inner Brenda. Channel her!
