Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam

I'll admit that I would have watched Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, even if I didn't have writing for this site as an excuse to sit in on a Friday night. Two years ago, I was watching MTV and saw an ad for a Disney movie entitled, Camp Rock. I heard ads for Camp Rock on the radio, and saw them on the internet. I knew I had to check it out. It became so popular Disney made a sequel!
Camp Rock 2 grapples with the sometimes  fine line between super- stardom and passion for music. Disney didn't ruin a good thing with this sequel. The Jonas Brothers had me laughing and pleasantly surprised. Their roles were much improved compared to Camp Rock. Demi was solid, and had me engaged in the story. Meaghan Martin, who was recently cast as the lead role in Mean Girls 2, was as conniving as can be, preparing us for her upcoming role.
The writers definitely nailed this story. Nick Jonas' character, Nate, will have you "awing" with his cute tunes. Shane and Mitchie will have you praying for a Jemi reunion.  As so many Disney movies do, Camp Rock 2 appeals to all ages. The music is even better than the first. Wouldn't Change a Thing" was a sweet duet between Joe Jonas and Ms. Lovato. There's a variety of tracks from the likes of rock to hip-hop. Camp Rock 2 encompasses more personality than the first, and it's definitely worth checking out. I thought it was really appropriate for this site, since the take home message is that being a big star should not be the main priority- "making it" is about having talent, passion, and commitment. One final word of wisdom from the film, "if you want to be a lead singer you need tighter pants and a tambourine." Let me know your thoughts on Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam!

Fame In the Digital Age

I'm not going to lie.. I joined Twitter because Ryan Seacrest talked about it on his radio show that I listen to religiously. I thought the concept of celebrities interacting on a closer level with their fans was way cool, but I feel bad for the celebrities who open their replies to hate messages, or spam. There has been an abundance of articles about celebrities urging kids to stay away from the Internet. Let's face it, if we didn't have the Internet, you wouldn't be reading this right now. The "digital age" is opening doors for people into the entertainment industry that have never been opened before. The idea is that these new levels of exposure not be abused.

George Clooney said, "I would rather have a prostate exam on live television by a guy with very cold hands than have a Facebook page". In February 2010, in a tabloid tell all, John Mayer claimed that Jennifer Aniston was jealous of his fame due to the fact that she became famous before social networking. (Hate to break it to you John but your music is much better than your tweets). Many of today's stars were discovered on the internet including Justin Beiber and Colbie Callait. Even the Jonas Brothers got a boost to their career through their MySpace page. Should we listen to George Clooney, and get off Facebook? And is Miley Cyrus really on an anti-internet campaign? There has to be a balance between the use of social networking to get your name out, and good old fashioned hard work.  No matter how you look at it not everyone can be "discovered." Today's digital stars should give George Clooney some love for sweating through auditions. Maybe by 2011 we will stop blaming Liam Hemsworth for Miley's twitter deletion. If nothing else text more, tweet less, and watch a movie on the big screen. Maybe George is jealous that Leo just looks that much better in iMax...

Outstanding Children's Program: A Disney Dream

I could talk about Glee and Lea Michelle, but in the interest of this Blog I'm going to focus on the "Outstanding Children's Program" category in which Disney just about swept, claiming nominations for "Hannah Montana," "Jonas," "Wizards of Waverly Place," and "Wizards of Waverly Place the Movie," next to Nickelodeon's "iCarly." I predict a win for iCarly, since Miranda Cosgrove seems to be a favorite among critics. A surprise win would be for Jonas, which only finished it's first season and began a second spin-off with Jonas L.A. Hannah Montana is a viable contender since it's airing its final season, but something tells me the Television Academy is teasing Michael Poryes something fierce. Wizards of Waverly Place won last year in this category and with the series and a feature film nominated in the same category, Todd J. Greenwald just might be on to something...

Young Hollywood Awards

The Young Hollywood Awards are chosen by Hollywood Life and sponsored by JC Penney and Lipton Green Tea. These awards showcase some of the best and brightest young stars in the business.
Nick Jonas took home an award for Artist of the Year for his solo project "Who I am- Nick Jonas and the Administration." The album and tour were a success so hopefully Nick will do another solo album since Who I Am showcased Nick's natural passion for music.
Twilight stars shined at the gala with Ashley Greene taking home the award for "style icon", and Nikki Reed was awarded "superstar in the making." Justin Bieber was voted, "Newcomer of the Year, " but did not attend the event, due to scheduling conflicts with a video shoot.

Liam Hemsworth received the award for breakthrough actor of the year for his portrayal of Will in The Last Song. It's a shame Liam can't be respected in his own right without being associated with his girlfriend, Miley Cyrus, but it doesn't seem to bother him as he said, I'd like to thank my beautiful girlfriend." Miley was pretty excited aout the whole thing blogging to fans, "Omg. Liam just thanked me in his speech for his Young Hollywood Award. I haven’t stopped smiling. It is so nice to see someone who I care about so much succeed and his work be appreciated. :) yayy!" Liam was just cast for a leading role in Arabian Nights co- starring the respected Anthony Hopkins, set to start production this fall. Liam made his mark in The Last Song, with or without his shirt, proving he can compete with all the other hot American actors. Seeing Hemsworth in an action role should be exciting, and will suit his Aussie accent.
Awards like The Young Hollywood Awards are fun to watch, because recognition is so appreciated by these young stars. Keep an eye out for all the stars featured here to do great things in the entertainment world!
